College Scholarships: Bridging The Gap
By Sandra Stammberger
In pursuing education, particularly of obtaining a college degree after high school is very important for a successful career in life. A college today is such a need for any young adult. For a chosen degree to take, you must be prepared for the expenses it will consume for the years to come.

It found out that if someone finishes a college degree it will earn nearly twice as much throughout a lifetime as compared to someone with only a high school diploma. Incidentally, in rising costs of each year, many high school graduates cannot take nor continue their preferred courses in college.

The number one reason why many students are forced to drop out or not taking college anymore is lack of money. For this unavoidable situation many students in large part of the population that cannot take a college degree are left behind and end up looking for jobs just to support their college education. Some are experiencing emotional stress because they think they are just a burden to their family. For this part college scholarships are the answer.

College scholarships are financial aids that are available to those who want to pursue a college degree. Financial aid is the main key for you in paying a college education. A scholarship may be awarded based on the criteria that reflect the purposes of an organization or an institution.

Scholarships are classified for those who can avail and these are:

•Merit-based - a type of financial aid for which financial need is not used for determining a recipient. The student can benefit it based on; let’s say one excels on a type of sport in which a college/university is in need to upgrade their status to be a competitive team and this refers as a recruitment program. Another is for any who are very good academically and those with different kind of artistic ability. In part, the scholarship meant to motivate the student and promote the study it requires to take .

•Need-based – a type of financial aid in which the student and family’s financial situation is the main factor in giving the award. For this kind of scholarship it may cover all or part of the tuition and may even cover the different living costs of the students like shelter, books, fares and even daily allowances.

•Bond type – this is like for some recipients may be required to work for a specific time for a particular employer connected to the organization who granted the scholarship, otherwise they may be liable to repay the cash equivalent of the support they received.
